There are seven days in a week, out of which Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are known for work activities except on special holidays.
Saturdays and Sundays are work-free days; tell me exactly
how you spend your weekends?
Of what significance are Sundays to you?
Do you attend church service on Sundays?
Although you walk from Monday to Friday, do you still
find time to attend evening services on weekdays?
What does church attendance really mean to you?
Would you go to church next Sunday?
Godly-Tips according to Hebrew 10:25, states “Not forsaking
the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting
one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching”
Be encouraged and hesitate no more, make up your mind
today, Christianity may not be in full practice without attending church
services. It is the custom of Jesus Christ and it is mandatory for all
Christians, therefore make effort to go.
Luke 4:18, “And he came to Nazareth, where he had been
brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the
Sabbath day, and stood up for to read”
The subject of church membership has become a
grievous controversy among Christians today.
A large percentage of people believe they do not need
to attend church services for them to be called Christians. They believe
Christianity as a spiritual way of life does not really require any form of
physical activity like going to church but the spiritual state of heart. This, however, can be said to be true but the spiritual belief
on the inside will always trigger the physical action on the outside which will
eventually generate a craving for the need to attend church services.
On the contrary, many believe in going to church but
have never being a member of a specific denomination. They go from one church
to another; feeding their spiritual mind with a different form of doctrine as it
is being taught in a different denomination. After all, Jesus was never a member of
any church; this has always been their strong reason for this unhealthy
attitude.
But before a conclusion is drawn, I think there is a
need to find out some Godly-Tips and reasons why we must attend church services as a Christian;
1. To encourage one another. Hebrew
10:25, “Not forsaking
the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting
one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching” This scripture actually points to
the fact that many are erroneously forsaking the assembling together of the
brethren, but we are encouraged not to be found in this category. Moreover, the
day of the Lord is fast approaching; there is a need for us to keep reminding
ourselves about His coming.
2. It is the Master’s custom. Luke 4:18, “And he came to Nazareth, where he had been
brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the
Sabbath day, and stood up for to read” The accolade “Christian” means nothing but the follower of
Jesus Christ. However, as a follower of Jesus Christ, we should follow His
pattern of personal discipline and devotion. Going to church was a culture
noticed in Him while here on earth, it was His custom, so must it be ours as
well.
3. To showcase our various gift of the Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:7, “But the manifestation of the Spirit is
given to every man to profit withal” As long as you are born again, there is a gift of the
Spirit in you and church is a place where these gifts are prudently put to use.
Church provides an avenue to uncover divine talent implanted from the day we
gave our life to Christ. Until you avail yourself the opportunity to serve in
the church, the truth is you may not even know you are an asset to the kingdom
of God.
4. Church is the physical body of Christ on earth. Romans 16:5, “Likewise greet the church that is in their
house. Salute my Wellbeloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia unto
Christ”. It does not
really matter the level of the dishonesty going on in the church today as regard
the different denomination of which you may not know which one is genuine or
counterfeit, the church remains the physical body of Christ on earth.
The idea of church denomination is
not as new as many may think; during the bible days, there was a church in the
house of Priscilla and Aquila. There was a church in Jerusalem, Corinth,
Ephesus etc. Even, in the book of Revelation 2&3, several churches were
mentioned just as they exist today with different doctrines and practices;
Jesus however gave a report about them according to their deeds.
Of a truth, there are many wolves
in lamb clothing today, and this is not an excuse for not being a member of a
physical church. Moreover, it is important that you seek the guidance of the
Holy Spirit when making a choice of which denomination to join.
Note this; you are not committed
as a Christian until you have displayed your commitment in the local assembly
because the local assembly forms an integral part of the spiritual body of
Christ. Hence, you cannot function effectively in the spiritual body of Christ
until you function in the local assembly. It works hand in hand.
5. Church is the embassy of God on earth. John 17:16, “They are not of the world, even as I am not of
the world” Jesus
declared he is not of this world and so are all that believe in Him. The true
nationality of all His followers is Heaven and not this world. As a citizen of
Heaven, we are on earth as ambassadors to our nation. We have churches as our
embassies/Headquarters all over the world. You will agree with me that no
ambassador exists without an embassy. Hence, show me your commitment as a Christian and I will show you my church.
Neglecting church services is
symbolical to disregarding verdicts that have to do with our nation as an ambassador
in a foreign land. To remain relevant and be in tune with our nation, it is Godly-Tips for us to visit the embassy as often as possible. A Christian that refuses to
identify with the church is doing himself no good as he is missing a lot in terms
of immunity due to him as an ambassador to heaven on earth.
6. Two is better than one. Ecclesiastes
4:9, “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their
labour”
God is never a lone-ranger and He
is not delighted in His children being lonely. From the beginning of the
beginnings, He has always been the three in one God. At creation, He looked at
Adam, He said it is not good for him to be alone and He made a help meet for
him. The idea of not joining the other believers in church services is simply
against the plan of God for His people.
Moreover, there are battles which
cannot be fought alone; joining other Christians in the church services avails
great opportunity for cooperate anointing which aids victory in many spiritual warfare. Take this Godly-Tips today and become a victor in every battle of life, this works
faster than when it is tackled all alone. Joshua 23:10, “One man of you shall chase a thousand: for
the LORD your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he hath promised you”
