There are many folks today as a believer whose
father and mother are not learned as far as Christianity is concerned. So also, there are many Christian parents
whose children are yet to make the rightful decision that needed to be made as
touching Christian faith. None of these parties is capable of enforcing his/her
belief on the other regardless of their intimacy, except the decision is made
self-reliantly by every individual.
Christianity is a personal race, this is the
reason Apostle Paul declared in Philippians 2:12,
“Wherefore,
my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much
more in my absence, work out your own
salvation with fear and trembling”
Note here that he didn’t just say work out your
salvation as of many, but he specifically says YOUR OWN salvation referring to
every individual.
Decision to be a Christian is not a collective
responsibility but an individual; I mean, it is totally your decision to make.
Every Christian on earth today was born an unbeliever,
even if your father and mother happens to be General Overseers of a popular
Christian denomination, the decision to follow Jesus is yours and yours alone. If
you are yet to make this decision and you have being in the church from birth,
may be you are not yet a Christian and you need to do that now before it
becomes too late.
Romans
10:9-10, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt
believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be
saved.
For
with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession
is made unto salvation”
There is a need for you to take a moment in
agreement with your spirit, soul and body to believe and declare that Jesus
becomes your Lord and Saviour from that moment onward. It may happen in the
church, fellowship, during the course of discussion with a Christian brother or
sister; it can even happen right now through this medium. The point is that,
you must be led to Christ. Shun every act of self-righteousness, it will lead
you nowhere. If Apostle Paul does not need to be led even after he had heard
Jesus talking to him on his way to Damascus, there wouldn’t be any need for
Ananias to be sent to minister to him.
Acts
9:10-12, “And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to
him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.
And
the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight,
and inquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold,
he prayeth,
And hath seen in a
vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he
might receive his sight”
Ethiopian Eunuch is another example of a man with the similitude of a Christian
but without the approved requirement for him to be called one. He was there
trying to decode the spiritual word of God with natural understanding but just
couldn’t make headway. However, the Lord saw the genuineness in his search for
truth and he sent Philip to minister to him.
Acts 8:26-31, “And the
angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south
unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.
And he arose and went:
and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace
queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come
to Jerusalem for to worship,
Was returning, and
sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.
Then the Spirit said
unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.
And Philip ran thither
to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou
what thou readest?
And he said, How can I, except some man should
guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him”
You need to be led to Jesus; it is a required
protocol for all to follow.
In Matthew 2:13-15, the
angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph and instructed him to flee to Egypt with
Jesus and His mother because king Herod sought to destroy Him and the bible
says in verse 15 “And
was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken
of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son”
For a purpose Jesus was kept in Egypt for a
period; looking at it from the physical angle, it will be said that Jesus was
brought to Egypt that Herod might not kill Him. But that was not really the
case, the fact is that Herod sought to kill Him and the Lord ordered Joseph to
take Him out of Galilee. But, the truth is that all this happened, that the
word of the Lord by the prophet might be fulfilled, saying, out of Egypt have I
called my son, therefore Jesus was taken to Egypt. The spiritual interpretation of this however
is that every son of God through our Lord Jesus Christ is pre-planned to come
from Egypt (The world of sin)
Now as a Christian, where were you before you
became a Christian?
Have you ever being in Egypt (Where sin is the predominant
factor) or you have always find yourself in the church presuming you are
already a Christian which you are not and thinking there would be no need to
make any other decision regarding Christian faith?
The story of an honest man in the scripture
might be of help in this regard. Nicodemus was a ruler of the Jews. With a
great conviction that Jesus is the son of God, he came to Him by night. And
Jesus told him except a man be born again, he does not have a part in the
kingdom of God.
John
3:3-4, “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God"
Nicodemus saith unto
him, how can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into
his mother's womb, and be born?
You can imagine a man who has always being in
the church asking Jesus such question; this shows clearly that he was still
living in the old mentality, not yet born again and has no spiritual
understanding whatsoever; the best he could do was to reason as a natural man
and for this purpose, he could not comprehend the mystery. As long as man continues
to reason with his head knowledge the things of God, he remains in the dark
concerning spiritual things. 1 Corinthians 2:14, “But the natural man receiveth not the
things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he
know them, because they are spiritually discerned”
In every procedure, it is always recommended to
do the first thing first. So also, in this regard; it is recommended that you
believe in your heart and declare publicly with your mouth that Jesus is the
Lord of your life. This may look ridiculous, but take note of the scripture
quoted above; it is a spiritual step and it is foolishness to the natural man.
But, you can seize from being a natural man when you stop seeing the spiritual
process as foolishness. This process is the first step in your journey to
spiritual understanding and until you have done it, you may continue to be in
the dark as touching spiritual knowledge.
John
14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man
cometh unto the Father, but by me” It is required that you accept Jesus first,
and then the understanding to the things of the spirit shall be given unto
you.
