Chariot is usually a carriage with two wheels that is being pulled by horses and used for battle in the ancient time. From all indications, chariots are instruments of war. You will agree with me that 70 per cent of mentioning of chariots in the bible pointed to war.
There are two types of chariots mentioned in the bible; the chariots of men and the chariots of God.
The chariots of men can be best described as physical weapons, signal sending alert pointing to trouble, with limited ability. It does not save to the uttermost.
Today, chariots of men may no longer be in existence, but many instances serve as its replacement in our lives. The best this instrument of war does is to create fear in the opponent when he does not possess one. Peace was taken away from the servant of the prophet when he saw the chariots of men surrounded them roundabout because he did not have the knowledge of the chariots of God that were available to them. 2Kings 6:15, "And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?". Please, Understand that anything that is stealing away your peace is a chariot of men. Poverty, sickness, barrenness, joblessness, stagnation and so on are all deadly situations of life and can be likened to chariots of men as seen in the bible.
Chariots of God, on the other hand, are in many ways incomparable with the chariots of men.
Psalm 68:17 states, "The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels: the Lord is among them, as in Sinai, in the holy place"
This can as well be described as Invisible, a separator and as agents of help. Elisha had to pray for God to open the eyes of the servant before he could see the chariots of God that surrounded them.
2 Kings 6:17, "And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha".
The truth is you may not be able to see the defence strategies of God concerning your situations, but God has a defensive plan for all your predicaments. Elisha prayed for the young man, he was able to see and his confidence was restored.
As a Separator, the chariot of God otherwise described as the chariot of fire, performed a significant duty in 2 Kings 2:11 while Elijah was to be taken to heaven. The bible says, "And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder, and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven".
And, as an agent of Help, whenever God decides to release His chariot, He does it always to help His people. As seen in 2 Kings 6:17, God released His chariot to be of help to Elisha.
Even in 2 Kings 2:11, Elijah would not be separated from Elisha nor taken to heaven but by the chariot of God. And, in 2 Kings 7:6, the Lord actually made the host of the Syrians hear a noise of chariots and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host as if it was real in order to scare away the Syrians armies that besieged the city and help His people out of famine.
Please note, every appearance of the Chariots of God in the bible has indicated the divine intervention of God.
By the time Elisha and his servant woke up in 2 Kings 6:15-18, the enemy had already surrounded them with chariot and horses. But, little did they know that present with Elisha and his servant were thousands of invisible chariots of God that surrounded them day and night. Please, understand that children of God are never without a defence. Psalms 89:18, "For the LORD is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king".
The reality of Satan was confirmed in Luke 10:18 when Jesus said, "I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven". But, hope was restored when He states further "Behold, I give unto you power to tread upon serpent and scorpion, and all the power of the enemies and nothing shall by any means hurt you".
Although the devil could be very deadly in his approach, I am certain about the fact that; a fight against any child of God is a fight against God. Meanwhile, nobody fights God and wins. Therefore, as long as I rebel not against Him, but maintaining my followership in Jesus, He will always protect me. Zechariah 2:8, "For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye".
The enemies thought there would be no way of escape to Elisha and the servant, but God turned around the situation and the supposed captors eventually became the captives. 2 Kings 6:18-21
The truth is you don't see the chariots of God with your naked eyes but they are so real more than the enemy that is showcasing himself as an indomitable giant along your path.
2 Kings 6:16, "And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them".
In conclusion, God is ever faithful, His plan for you is certain. When you totally submit to Him, you will enjoy the full package of His awesomeness.
